No. 7

THURSDAY MORNING EDEN turned over in bed to the sound of her phone ringing, no one ever called this early in the morning unless there had been a death in the family. Bolting upright, she grabbed the phone laying on the bedside table and answered.

“What’s wrong?” It was Andie’s phone number that came up on her caller ID, something had to be wrong – it was only five forty-five in the morning and she was calling. Trey was hurt and she needed Eden to look after JJ.

“Nothing, nothing, Eden. Calm down.” Andie’s voice came over the line sounding apologetic. “I didn’t mean to scare you.” She added before she heard Andie take a deep breath. “It worked.”

Falling back into her pillows, Eden didn’t catch the last thing that Andie said, instead she was trying to slow down the accelerated beating of her heart so that she didn’t go into a cardiac arrest.

“What worked? Andie what are you talking about?” Eden asked, bringing her hand up to scrub the heel into her eyes, trying to push sleep away as she held the phone to her ear with the other hand.

“The spell you do-do bird what else. Trey is going to have the stitches taken out this morning before work – his cut is completely healed.” Andie explained.

“It’s what?” Eden sat up in bed again, trying to put together the string of words that Andie just said. She had to be pulling her leg, it was all just a practical joke.

“Eden, listen to me... the spell – it worked. Trey was restless all-night last night because he said the stitches felt too tight so when he took the bandage off this morning to look at it, he showed it to me. The skin... it’s like he was never cut in the first place – the stitches aren’t holding anything together.”

Eden sat in bed, rubbing her eyes in the attempt that maybe if she could see clearly, she might better comprehend what Andie was telling her, but it all seemed like Greek to her. Something about the spell worked and Trey’s hand had healed itself.

Wait.

“Andie are you sure?” Eden croaked, pushing her blankets back and throwing her legs out of bed looking for her sweatpants which she had taken off before climbing into bed.

“Yes, I am absolutely sure Eden. Yesterday when I looked at it, it looked exactly the same as it had – a little less red maybe, but you could still clearly see between the stitches where the skin had been sliced into and now it’s totally gone.”

Eden didn’t want to get ahead of herself – but she was already walking down the hallway to the living room.

“I’m coming over, I have to see this.”
